The mold, made of special plaster in a steel flask, has been heated to 700 degrees for several hours in a kiln.
Water has been dried out. The wax form inside has been melted out and all residue burned away by the heat, leaving a void where the wax form was, which will be filled with molten metal. This is the lost wax method.
